3 Wars of the Words as they snooze it all away..........
UNGA72 presented three biggest wars of the worlds with angry rebuttals back & forth
1. Israel & Iran
2. India & Pakistan
3. USA & North Korea
The purpose of UNGA is to proliferate peace. However UNGA72 only proliferated more conflicts. All 3 matches turned into 3 diplomatic disasters to the point that any minute we can hear the news that WW3 has started. If words could kill people, UNGA would have been a slaughter house.
It is highly unfortunate that in the century of booming technology & innovation where man has been able to overcome major challenges; peac is still considered a four-letter word. Why? Because sitting in a conference room face to face is not able to solve any conflicts. What we see is regression of civilization to the times of the medieval ages when "might was aways right". Thus, prosperous & well-armed countries always end up having an upper hand in gatherings like UNGA. "Money SPEAKS" as gross violations of Geneva Conventions are deliberately ignored. Human rights of the poor & indigenous are neglected. Illegal sale of arms to war criminals remains unimportant.
How much money is the world spending on UN? A lot. But, do you see any results? No. Poverty remains a challenge. Access to basic amenities of life like clean water is still elusive. Environmental degradation continues to feed the unending hunger of the corporate sector. So, what exactly is the United Nations accomplishing? What is worse is that UN sanctions North Korea thus escalating the tensions between US & DPRK. How can you achieve peace when you carry out prejudiced decisions favoring richer countries over poor ones? Even a 6th grader can do a better job at bringing a truce between US & N Korea. All you need is face time meeting of Trump & Kim. Maybe Kim just wants to be heard by the world about his concerns. Sometimes all it takes is to be a good listener to solve a conflict. If Russia & USA can now have better relations or China & USA can be stronger partners why can't USA & DPRK end their war of the words. All it takes at the end of the day is a smile & a warm hand-shake.
Coming to Pakistan & India, Indians have to realize what they want for their country? An unending war with their neighbor to feed the fascism of some Pundits & to quench the thirst of RSS......OR
peaceful relations with Pakistan by solving the Kashmir conflict in lieu of UN plebiscite. If RSS is the boss here & wants a perpetual war with us, India will get war from us. But, after so many wars & blood shed, has India been able to accomplish peace in Kashmir? No. The 700,000 soldiers of India have not been able to achieve anything for Indians except a vacuum that extracts a hefty amount of their yearly budget. Not to mention, the disgrace of Indian army's human rights violations in Kashmir jeopardized the good will of those Indians who want Kashmir to get its right of self-determination peacefully.
Before WW2, Germans had a choice. They could defy Hitler & stop him before he went on a killing spree OR they could hail him. Germans hailed him being hypnotized by his promises of world domination and we all know what happened thereafter. Indians have a choice too. Follow Modi's fascism or defy him to do what is right.
Coming to Iran & Israel, I think Israel has to stop its war crimes in Gaza & Palestine. Iran is now not the only one fighting against Israeli apartheid. There are many Europeans & Americans who support Iran's endeavors. In a battle of right vs wrong, history has proven again & again that WRONG always loses. All oppressions have an expiration date. Israel is now very close to the point where entire world is expected to unite against its atrocities. More than 50% Americans now feel that US should not fund Israel any more. By carving out a new Israeli Kurdistan, Netanyahu will not have the support it will need to sustain itself. Because this Kurdistan will be opposed by quite a few of its neighbors leading to a perpetual cycle of another war that Israel will have to pay for without much support from USA. If it thinks Russia will support Israel at the cost of compromising its relations with Iran, Israel is living in a fool's paradise. Russia & Iran are strong military partners & have been supporting Assad against foreign invasions.
I really do not see any effectiveness of UN anymore. Infact, I feel that by making itself as the supreme humanitarian body that is expected to resolve all conflicts, it is abusing significant amount of global resources. The Rohingya crisis is a classic example of its incompetence. It waited for Burma to slaughter 3000 civilians before making any effort to stop this genocide. It could have used its influence with China & USA to end this apartheid way before but it did not even try. Have you ever seen a lazy student not submit his assignment on time coming up with the excuse that he couldn't find his book or he lost the assignment or he fell sick. United Nations is that tardy school boy looking for an excuse to NOT do the job it is expected to do.
We must approach better humanitarian agencies like code pink, HRW, Amnesty International, IVAW, ACLU etc. who do not have billion dollars budget & who have a crew of only a handful of people. However, their effectiveness is much more productive & cost-effective. Because the world cannot just sit down & watch a wrestling match of nuclear powers while the United Nations takes its time to wake up.
